Indonesia's Tourism Value Analysis: Who Brings the Largest Economic Value?

This project analyzes Indonesia’s tourism value by country to understand where visitors come from, how much value they generate, and how tourism demand differs across markets using a data-driven approach.

❓ Story Behind It: Since the first year of President Prabowo’s administration, Indonesia has implemented major budget efficiency measures across ministries. In 2025, the Ministry of Tourism experienced a ~40% budget reduction, pushing policymakers and tourism stakeholders to rethink how tourism promotion resources are allocated. 💡 Offered Solution: This project breaks down tourism performance by country to reveal patterns in visits, spending behavior, and total tourism value. Instead of focusing on volume alone, the analysis highlights which markets contribute the most value and where strategic focus could generate higher impact. In addition, supervised learning (regression models) are performed to explain factors that contribute to the tourism value. 🚀 How it Works: 1. Aggregates tourism indicators by visitor country 2. Analyzes visits volume, spending, average length of stay, and sosioeconomic indicators of the origin countries 3. Compares models to extract the key drivers of tourism value 🛠️ Tech Stack: - Data: BPS and World Bank Data - Tools: Python, Pandas, Scikit-learn - Visualization: Looker Studio - AI-Assisted Development: Claude (Sonnet 4.5) - Skill: geoeconomic analysis, advanced feature engineering, supervised learning modeling and evaluation (regression) 🤔 What to Expect: The analysis reveals that not all visitor markets contribute equally to tourism value. Some countries generate higher economic impact despite lower visit volume, while others rely on mass tourism. These insights can support market prioritization, tourism strategy, and investment planning. Furthermore, 3 key drivers to the tourism value are explained. ✨ Why This Matters: This project demonstrates how tourism data can move beyond reporting into decision support, helping stakeholders focus on value-driven growth rather than raw numbers. repo: https://github.com/umarfadhil/indonesia-tourism-value-analysis-by-country/ google colab: https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1jYvL4pXUosxYaTkeD0QdD9eTlGpFx0ol?usp=sharing
